Would you go march in Selma with a one year old?

Bloody Sunday Anniversary is coming up. I'm about 3.5 hours away. From what I've heard, Obama and the Clintons will be there. And then the usuals: Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and other Civil Rights leaders. I can wear DS in a mei tai on my back for the actual march. I really want to go. Any ideas?

With a one year old...sure!

Provided your little one travels fairly well in the car, one is still young enough that being carried shouldn't be an issue. I wouldn't attempt it with a child any older until you hit 6 or 7, but I dragged my daughter lots of places like that in her sling. I'm jealous that you're going *g*.

DS travels fine for about

DS travels fine for about 2hours. Which works out fine b/c my sister is about 1 and 45 minutes into the trip. So I could stop and stay there overnight or just stop in. I'm not positive that I'll go, yet.

For me, I don't take DS.

But that's mostly because of his diabetes & the inability to keep his routine in such a situation. When he was younger & hadn't presented yet I would take him but only to small events. To my experience the larger the event the more unpredictable & I'm okay with a level of risk for myself but I'm not okay with it for him. But that's just me.

If you don't go, I'll pinch you

I was listening to Obama on NPR this morning. Sigh. Go! Go!! Tell us all what it was like. If I am correct, a mai tai is very much like the ergo carrier right? If It is, Then you should have no trouble. I took my three year old all over the place in my carrier a few months ago while on vacation. Hours spent walking & he was fine. Even got in a good nap here & there. Have fun & don't forget to report back with your impressions of the event.

yes a million times!

Go!
I would go, absolutely. Toss the kiddo in the mei tai, grab a small bag of essentials and hit the road. A lot of people bring kids to marches, lots of people take short trips with kids, plus it will be great!
I am one of those crowd-cautious types personally, and I manage to keep an eye on what's going on so I can step back if things get weird/scary/too exciting/too close, and even I would go if I were close-ish.
It would be so cool to go.
