fun few nights!
Well, I had one date on Thursday night. I thought I was actually going to have a lot in common with this guy, and, on the surface, that was true. Both of German extraction, both classically trained musicians (drop-outs of that scene, as well), both kinda anti-corporate. But, I found him to be a little too dishonest with himself. Someone who goes to Burning the Man for 5+ years, and then claims he's not a Burner, uh, yeh? Someone who works in the liquor industry (retail), and is not drinking currently, but claims not to be a big drinker, although many of his stories are about drinking, uh, yeh? Anyway, he wasn't a bad guy, just not my type.
Friday, on the other hand, with the dancing civil engineer (kinda like the "Dancing Cavalier", from "Singin' in the Rain"), was a BLAST! Now I know that I have to practice, so if any of y'all know of a good swing CD (not too fast--KWIM?) that would be appreciated! The teacher had us doing a slightly nasty ("trashy", she said) move, and it had both of us giggling and blushing. Naturally, we had to work on it, A LOT.
Also had dinner with DCE, and a drink. I was afraid that he was going to be too mainstream for me, but I discovered 1)he has a wicked, dry sense of humor, 2)his brother's queer and 3) he's a DIY kind of guy. And he's still cute. And I have 5 more weeks of this to look forward to!
But, the topper was last night. The DDs and I had dinner with some old friends (like, one of the kids went to preschool with DD15). There were 6 kids and 7 grown-ups. It was a potluck, conversation was great, and we all played Apples to Apples together. Gosh, it was soooo nice to look around the table at all of these beautiful, wonderful (multi-ethnic, straight and gay, some US born, some immigrants, some native English speakers, some not, some grown-ups did not have kids, and some of the kids were there without their parents, might I add) people, kids and grown-ups, having a great time together!! I hope we can do that again!

sounds fun. i've been trying to put myself 'out there', and sometimes the hardest part (for me) is coming to terms with someone not being for me. i really need to work on a 'it's not me, it's you' mentality, instead of the other way around. the dinner party sounded great! i love apples to apples, that's such a fun game.
