Where can I sell jewelry?

I have one very nice piece of jewelry. A guy gave it to me. I don't wear it, and if I do, it reminds me of that schmuck. I don't really care for it, but I do know that it's worth a pretty penny. Where could I go and get a pretty penny for it?

is Ebay with a high enough reserve so it doesn't go cheap. Most people are willing to pay worth and Ebay fees are much cheaper then consignment.

I have the same situation, did a little research and the consensus seems to be that appraisals are fairly worthless--they totally fluctuate. What is the item? if it's simple to describe/know what it is, you can do some simple ebay comparisons...jewelry stores might buy/auction houses...I sent a pearl necklace off to somewhere over the internet to be appraised and sold but their estimate was for WAYYY less than what I think it's worth (I think that place was called lindencotts or something). I'm not much help, I guess...but I'm interested if anyone else is!

and see if you can find anything that is similar on Ebay and follow it.

Try placing an ad on Craigslist. It's free. Any jewelry store or pawn shop will rip you off. Has it been appraised? That would help with the selling price.
