Who would you vote for?

For me the choice is clear, i love Barak Obama. I think he has the stuff it takes to unite the center to the left which is what we need.

As a feminist it hurts me to say that i do not trust H. C. I think she is a true and total politician. However, I would vote for her if she was the only choice left. I just always hoped that when it was the first woman president that I'd be so excited and ready to campaign.

when I heard he intended on running I cringed. I always liked Hillary but Obama has a much better chance of winning IMO. That being said I think he may still be a little too "green" to actually get elected into office esp if he ends up running against McCain or another republican most lefties can tollerate. But in a perfect ideal world I like Obama for the presidency, I think that he could run a very successful campaign in '12 when he's had more 'washington experience'. I have heard a lot of people say he should run now while he's still hot and maybe he should but I think his politics could stand the test of time.

no to McCain

He scares the crap out of me, and I think he has a chance. However, I think he has (thankfully) been too opposed to the latest torture legislation and stuff, and despite all of his ass kissing during 2004, he may not be welcome on the GOP ticket.

I hope it's Rudy Guliani. I think he is too liberal for most conservatives, and won't be able to shore up the base, and independents who would vote for him are just as likely to go left.

If it all comes down to Hillary Clinton vs. John McCain, I might ask...is death an option?

I think Giuliani has WAY

I think Giuliani has WAY more of a chance than McCain (who's also too liberal for conservatives but does not have the 9/11 cred that Giuliani does). Giuliani was painted as a national hero after 9/11 and in a lot of people's eyes it's close to blasphemy to say anything bad about the guy. Did you see the way the Bush campaign paraded him around at every possible moment? He could win- especially if pitted against Hillary.
The scariest prospective candidate is Mitt Romney, current governor of MA- he is intelligent, carismatic, and good looking but SUPER conservative and evil in general...

I have much love for John

I have much love for John Kerry- he's better than most politicians out there, really... but I sadly have to agree. He's not a good candidate in the sense that he's too stiff and impersonable to win enough people over.

He seems more genuine.

Obama.

For Sure. I've become really, really disillusioned with Hilary in the past five years. Really disillusioned.

neither, honestly

I am no Obama expert, but my initial response is that he will make a great candidate, in a few terms. He is too new to me.

HC, no way. For 100 reasons. There is way too much anger and resentment left over from Clinton that is way too easy to rally against her. But, my gut reaction to this match up is, what is this? Celebrity Death Match? These people are celebrities right now more than they are experienced politicians. Actually, maybe that's a good thing. How about Jon Stewart?

Obama!

Obama! Based mostly on his speech at the 2004 convention, I suppose. He's so inspiring; so few dems are these days. Plus, the fact that he's a new senator would make him less vulnerable to the "flip flop" bs.

oh. man

Why you making my brain hurt sisterstu. I have to muse on this some more. Right this moment I think I would vote for Obama but...Clinton I truly believe would get more stuff actually done, like I think she would get a national health plan enacted whereas Obama wouldn't even touch it during his first term.

Also having been in the whitehouse for 8 years as a presidential spouse Clinton has gotten a lot of the backlash stuff she will/would get as a woman president out of the way, such as her appearance, demeanor, marriage, motherhood abilities, feminist stance, etc out of the way. Not that folks wouldn't tear her down or mud-sling her in an attempt to detract from her work but alot of that stuff simply won't fly today. For example remember the pages and pages of newspaper space devoted to her wearing headbands back in the day? Obama is going to have to go through all that and more...there would/will be pages and pages devoted to how 'articulate' he is, and god forbid if he dares to grow his afro even a half-inch higher there will be a tremendous amount of nonsense about how he's trying to make a political statement with his hair. It's just a lot of smoke to confuse the more gullible and traditional of the voting public; unfortunately it works on quite a few people. His wife will be picked apart, his status as a father will be picked apart, alla that. Hillary's gone through the personal attacks and I don't think the public will respond to it again in the same way. Her marriage? She's staying with Bill the cheater, Done. Her child? She's a grown woman now, Done. Her appearance? She looks just like all the other female politicians in dress and demeanor now, Done.

and then there is a the race aspect...at this point in time I don't think most white americans would vote for a black man to be president, even a half-white one who knows how to talk to them and set them at ease. but I don't know, I have to do more reading on both of their track records as well.

Yeah, Hilary already knows

Yeah, Hilary already knows how things work, and I agree that she could get more done. She tried her best to pass a health care plan 14 years ago, way before it was the big issue that it is today.

i'm not sure

that she would get more done. i agree that she defiinitely knows the game better than obama but if HC had a republican congress, i can't imagine she would get much done at all. the thing about her is that people either LOVE her or they really really Hate her. I think that Obama is less devisive but part of that is b/c he isn't truly "out there" yet. i am interested to see how he handles the heat if he actually announces a bid for the seat.

what about al gore? he'd never win. but i like him more now than i did 8 years ago.

But if I have to choose between Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton, I choose Obama.

I would have said Clinton

I would have said Clinton until I found out that she backed Bush when he signed the Terror Detainee Bill that was discussed in another heated blog on HipMama. What a dissapointment.

can they run together?

hehe
my husband and i just had the obama or hilary conversation the other day; he would go for obama for sure, and i ended up saying that i would simply have to vote for hilary simply because she is a woman. i'm reconsidering this now...
i really like them both, for different reasons. what do y'all think would happen if they somehow managed to run together (like hc for pres & obama for vp)?

weird fantasy, i know... but indulge me...

Obama for sure! Ok.. so this

Obama for sure! Ok.. so this is just the conspiricy theorist in me, but I don't like all the running around together Pres Clinton and Bush Sr have been doing. Bush Sr actually referred to Clinton as 'a member of the family' that makes me nervous. Makes me wonder how far their hands are in each other's pockets. Don't trust the Clintons anymore because of that. IMHO. It may sound wacky but I have a tendency to overthink these things.

Oooh tough choice...

But despite some pretty significant misgivings, I'd vote for Obama over Clinton.

I kind of lost my enthusiasm for her over the last couple of years. Not impressed with her voting record as a Senator, and I think she's a bit more embedded in what I hate about politics. More so than he is, anyway.
