Selah will be three in a week and a half, and I'm having a party for her at our house with family and a few friends. There will be, I think, five 3-year-olds and a 4-year-old in attendance. I'd love to come up with some kind of activity for the kids so that it doesn't end up being a 3-hour free-for-all, which can get a bit crazy with kids that age. Anyone have any ideas? Maybe a craft or a game or both? I'm also planning to make her cake this year. Anyone have a good cake recipe they want to share?

happy birthday Selah!

I love 3.
Random thoughts: bubbles. music--w dancing games, musical chairs variations, simon says, etc. balloons. pinata. sock puppets! or paper bag/plate masks....

What kind of cake do you want? I have a very decadent red velvet cake that's kind of time intensive to make, but so worth it. also a lemon cake that's not so impressive looking, but yummy. I have a good carrot cake, too.

I was thinking of a sweeter carrot cake, or something like that.

Musical chairs or Simon says might actually be totally hilarious for the grandparents to watch. Cute ideas! Thank you!

I got a HUGE wide roll

of butcher (4' x 12') like paper, hung it along an outside fence and then let them go to town doing a BDAy mural. Leave it up for awhile so Selah can keep adding. Work in progress. Don't forget to take a photo beofre you toss.

That looks like so much fun!

That looks like so much fun! Unfortunately the weather here has been in the 40s lately so I'm afraid we won't be able to do anything outside, which is a bummer.

Well, this was in July and 90 degrees.

Cold weather would be harder to pull off. Plus you want the mess outside.

one word:

TAPE

kids that age love tape!! I'd get a bunhc of the cheapy rolls, like 4 for a dollar or whatever, and let them have at it with some crayons and paper. They will get a blast out of hanging up their pics on your walls, and sticking each other with tape. Then when the party is over they can take their pic(Drunk home as a party favor.
