Moomintrolls
I just reread Tove Jansson's Moominvalley books, all of them, which I had read when I was younger. That lady is an effing genius. So what I'm doing right here, is officially recommending these books to yall with kids who either are already reading "chapter books", or are having bedtime stories that aren't necessarily picture books. Because Moomintrolls, and Snufkin and Little My, They Make Me Happy. And that's it. Seriously, The woman is one of the best artists to have created a mass produced set of characters, though they have a cheesy TV version as well, in Finland, where Tove (and I) am from. But there's also a few picture books, written in rhyme, but Ive never read the English version of those, so I can't vouch for the text, though the pictures rock my socks. Here ends my public display of affection towards one of my favorite dead ladies that I've never met.
Thanks for the recommendation. I'll definately check these out.!

They're a little bit weird and quirky, which put me off them a little when I was a kid, and then I reread them in college and fell completely under their spell. They're so wise and charming and magical. I often classify people according to what moomintroll character they are most like. I'm a fillyjonk.
That's so funny you mention them, because I've been listening to my old OLD cassette tapes from my childhood in Poland. I have a "moominki" story all in polish with polish actors who sound like really dramatic stage actors, ahahah. They are really weird, I always thought they were a Polish cartoon. The story I have is of a girl who gets kidnapped but her kidnapper likes theater and the other Moominwhatevers decide to put on a play about a sad lion or something in order to entice the kidnapper away from the girl and let her go. Something like that, I'm probably getting all the details wrong because of the translation. But I'll keep my eyes out for the english version.

I'm afraid I'm more like Little My which is what my family calls me, or Moominpappa usually, and then Snufkin on a good day. We try for the Snufkin days, but we can't be peaceful and mysterious all the time, right? Hm. I can't pin just the one.
