My fiance's dog keeps humping a throw pillow

At this very moment, my son is "roughhousing" with my fiance's dog and the dog's favorite throw pillow. Thankfully, my son does not realize that the dog considers this more as foreplay rather than roughhousing. DS is laughing hysterically, running around with the corner of the pillow in his mouth while Simon (the dog) is chasing him with his thrusting pelvis and his creepy doggy erection (bleh). I know, I know...it's just a dog erection, perfectly natural, nothing creepy or sexual (in the human sense) about it. But, I hate this dog. I've tried so hard to love him and welcome him in the family as he's DS's favorite playmate, but I just can't make myself. It's been over a year, and I still cringe at the sight of the poor thing. He's got typical annoying behavorial issues (peeing on our dining room table would top the list), he's completely stupid and lacks any sense of normal canine loyalty to me or my fiance (he's reserved some for DS, but that's as far as it goes), he looks like a doggy version of a friend-of-a-friend whom I cannot stand, and he has really large, shiny, hairy, floppy dog balls that make me extremely uncomfortable. He reminds me of that nerdy guy in junior high who stares intently at your breasts with a distant smile on his face and an obvious boner...you don't feel exactly violated, just mildly intruded upon and irritated. I've tried directing DS's attention elsewhere to leave Simon and his pillow to their privacy until whatever needed to get done is done, but DS is having too much fun (and so is the dog, for that matter). This whole situation is making me nauseous...something about it all seems so inappropriate.

A little advice?

You would be shocked at how much neutering will help. Peeing on the furniture is one of the ultimate dominance moves. PM with any specific questions and I would be happy to help. I do behavior testing and training for the humane society so I might be able to help you out if you want. He obviously considers your DS his. Let me know if you need any help.

WHY ON EARTH isn't your fiance's dog nuetered? Does he enjoy dogs that pee in the house and hump?? Cuz that is what he signed up for when he didn't nueter it. Or, is he hoping to add another litter to the literally millions of animals we "put to sleep" in this country??

Since we got him, our finances have been pretty skimpy. We always have intentions of getting him fixed, but every month that we have the extra $75 to de-man him, there's usually some other expense that's "more urgent". We've dealt with it pretty well until now, he's not running off and impregnating anyone...he's not shown much interest in dogs, esp. female ones...he prefers throw pillows.

OH. I get that. I had a knee-jerk emotional response because I have known a few guys that have some huge hang-up about de-balling their dog. And it irritates me.

If anything, women should be the ones to personalize this, considering ALL the unnecessary hysterectomies women have undergone, for everything from promiscuity to marital unhappiness.

But we have more goddamn sense than that.

What is it with men and balls?

You're right...men will not allow other males to part with their nuts, but women stand for all sorts of messes happening to their ovaries. I should start being a bitch about my ovaries, just to counteract the male testicle protection program.

Neutering did stop the peeing in the house

But I had to get rid of the Mickey Mouse doll because even after the procedure my beagle was still humping it. I thought about pictures, but realized that was inappropriate, even for me *L*. After Mickey left the building, the behavior stopped. I still don't know what it was about that one doll.

Low cost spay and neuter

I'm not sure where you are located at but you might want to call your local humane society and ask if they could help. We do occasional low cost ( $20 for males, $30 for females ) neuter and spay clinics. It's worth a shot to ask if they do any at your local one.
