Revelation on toddler rage
Yesterday at the grocery store my two year old saw some of those little cocktail weenies and said; "Baby hotdog!" It occured to me that to him the word baby just means small. I realized he has no idea that he's going to grow bigger!
Toddlers probably just think that they got unlucky and are very small humans.
No wonder they get so easily pissed about the things they can't do.
thank you for sharing this tidbit of wisdom.

Actually--ds(who is just 3) will often get made if we call him nick name--he says"I am just a human being!"
Well, yup
I'd rather learn from one bird how to sing
than teach ten thousand stars how not to dance

Mummy's alright, Daddy's alright, they just seem a little weird...
brilliant
I figured out that very same thing with DS when he was little.

She's an early childhood teacher, and says little kids never think they will ever be bigger kids, much less adult or even worse...old!

I'd never thought of that! Simon thanks you in advance.

My two year old gets pissed at the drop of a hat. She wants to do everything all by herself, and it doesn't always work out the way she thinks it should. I'm sure she's thinking she got a raw deal in this life, being so short and unable to express herself like all the 'big people' can. Poor baby.
Shoot. Jimmy had an awesome book about this, and I just did a google search so I could recommend it to you, and it seems to have disappeared after 12 years. Anyway - it was called "Go Away, Mommy!" and it dealt with this exact thing - the toddler in it wished his mommy small (she was eventually stranded in a toy boat in the tub until said toddler rescued her)so that she would "get" what it feels like to be one of those very small humans.
I'll look for it. You have a smart boy, there. Allie uses "baby" for small too, and it's just so sweet to hear about all of the "baby" things we have around all the time. I used to think she really got it, as all the babies were living things, but yesterday we saw an Austin Mini and she said, "OH! Car baby!"

That made me chuckle out loud.
I'm not sure if I agree though...it seems they are determined and convinced they can do more...will do more...(though that doesn't make the current frustration any less powerful) I feel like my dd knows she has gotten bigger and will continue to get bigger. But who knows?
