Hey, now that we have a few more people around and I have been doing this longer -- more feedback on the news feeds anyone? Does anyone look at them? Anyone have feeds to recommend? Anyone have recommendations for news topics that aren't included, a way to break 'em up so they're more reflective of what news y'all want to see here?

Here is the basic situation -- I have to hand code 'em into the topics category. Right now there are fourteen, I could probably break it up as far as twenty and still find it manageable. Most of our news right now is coming from alternet & indymedia which means it's heavy on the politics. I'd like to see topics (and news), that are more in line with our broader interests (and maybe that don't necessarily publish quite the same volume so we don't have two sources hogging the space, but if everyone likes 'em, you know, I'm fine with that too. Smile

If you think of a new topic heading think about the fact that I want to be able to look at the article & sum it up in one or two words for the most part. I can do multiple topics, but for the most part unless they both *really* fit there, I'd rather not do that so much. I'm not happy with the "life" category. It's basically a catchall right now. Non-fiction authors, the Rush debacle, the stuff regarding race... It's just too broad and there's lots of room for improvement.

So anyway. The topics as they currently stand are more or less taken directly from mainstream media, with a few exceptions -- activism, business, creative, education, environment, feminism, health, international, life, national (US, with apologies), parenting, science, technology.

I'm adding a women in technology feed now, because the women at http://www.misbehaving.net kind of rock my world right now... Smile

I read 'em

Don't have much time to comment on them or add anything insightful, but I like to get on line in the morning and check out a few new sources and this is now one of them.

I'm more of an escapist type... I'm big on Arts & Letters Daily, plus that page has a number of good feeds linked.

Just chiming in, yo.

Very cool. Hmm. I think I have to do more research here -- it looks like I only have about fifty headlines I can work with which means (where's my handy-dandy calculator)... Oy... 3.3 blogs (most blogs have about 15 entries on rss).

Ok, I'm keepin' notes here! Smile

Thanks for the recommendations!
