I'm not sure whether anyone has ever posted anything about this before. A woman in Seattle spent a year wearing the same brown dress in an attempt to simplify and cut out the consumerism aspect. The year ended in July and I guess she has now made a vow to only wear clothes from now on that she has made herself from recycled and biodegradable materials. (She makes her own undies!) It's pretty interesting/inspiring stuff.

okay, i was thinking along these lines....
very recently, that i would not buy anything new unless it was special or i couldn't figure it out myself, and i was actually doing some refabricating for the 1st time of stuff i had but the need for had changed, NOW i am going to feel committed to this concept
i will post pics of the stuff i was redoing maybe next week...

awesome!
i had never heard about this before. as someone wanting to learn to make my own clothes, i am interested in following this woman's story and progress on her new project. thanks for sharing.
Wow. How cool. I loved how
Wow. How cool. I loved how original and "fashionable" her new clothes looked! People probably see her on the street now and think she's got a cool style.
This is one area that I feel really needs attention in my own life. I swear I get some great hand-me-downs because I am smaller than almost everyone I know. So when things shrink or just don't fit someone else quite right they come down to me. A lot of the time they are cool one-of-a-kind type things that someone just can't part with. But they aren't the kind of things that I can wear day-to-day so I end up thrifting for that kind of stuff (or occasionally buying new for work outfits). My closet ends up being filled with a bunch of crap that I don't wear. Uck.
I am constantly trying to simplify. I know the "if you haven't worn it in a year rule" but some of the really special stuff is so hard to part with.
Something to think about - Thanks.
thats cool.
