Has anyone been involved in a house auction ??

I am desperate to sell my house. The standard real estate agent route is just not working for us.

Any clever ideas?

Thanks mamas,

We sold our house by owner

A few years ago, when the LA real estate market was really hot, houses were selling in 5 days, etc. DH decided that he wanted to sell our place without a realtor. Here's what we did:

-We brought in a realtor friend to consult on what to do in order to show our house (this was just like "Designed to Sell" on HGTV, only we didn't spend as much $$)
-We canvassed the neighborhood, and looked at what other houses like ours were listing for their asking prices
-We did our own flyers, made our own For Sale sign, made our own Open House signs
-We placed our Open House signs right next to the realtors' signs on weekends.
-Try to find a realtor (if you're buying another house, sometimes that realtor is willing to help you sell yours) who will consult on the side and help you with your paperwork for a small commission.

We had one open house weekend, Sat-Sun. By Sunday night we had like 5 offers, and we were in escrow by the end of the week. So all in all, it was a very good experience, and definitely saved us thousands of dollars. But I would DEFINITELY recommend getting a realtor friend to look over your paperwork, maybe give him/her a small commission to review your documents and make sure they'd stand up in court. We sold our house as-is, and had to list everything that could possibly be wrong with it, and make the buyers sign off.

The other drag is that you're constantly getting harassed by realtors when you sell without using one. We lost two friends who were realtors, who were enraged that we didn't list our house with them. Also, some of the harassment can get downright nasty. One of the realtors on our street was super pushy. Her husband threatened DH and actually sliced the tires on his truck. Overall, though, the aggravation was still worth the money.

That is my dream!! I love these ideas. In two weeks when our contract runs out this is EXACTLY what I am going to do.

Thanks so much,

I am in the same boat.

I am in the same boat. Im getting alot of traffic to my homelog that I created specifically to sell, so hopefully that translates into a sell.

I think auctions are only

I think auctions are only effective if you're in the kind of area where they are really popular. Here, homes are sold by auction all the time, but it's a buyer's market in most towns. I'm in the same boat, trying to sell a home in a really undesirable town, and I've just decided to go the e-bay route.

its definitely a buyers

its definitely a buyers market here right now so maybe that wont work. I checked ebay and the only houses up for auction around here are in very bad condition. Ihave seen others in other areas that looked great and for so little money!!

Good luck!
