Have you ever had electric shock sensations?
Since 2002, I have had sporadic electric shock sensations in my leg. They are very strong - the first time was at my dds first birthday party and I nearly evacuated the room because I thought a wire was loose under the carpet. They cause me to scream loudly, drop everything and grab my thigh, and then they are over. It is usually when I am coming up from being bent over, generally when am under some sort of stress. It used to happen a few times a year but in the last month it has happened more... Three times in the last week including twice today.
I have a doctors appointment on Friday but I would love to hear if anyone has gone through anything similar. I can't find much info on line.
Has this ever happened to anyone? Thanks wise mamas.

radiculopathy, and neuropathy. i get that since i slipped a lumbar disc, the disc pinches the nerves at the base of the spine and it shoots down your leg. but it may not feel like it's shooting in that direction, either. it may feel as though it's coming from the other direction. this is because your nerves are thinner and weaker at the peripheral ends. do you get a crawling sensation in your feet? or, do your toes twitch? does your foot get cold or weak? do you get a radiant pain? is there a position that you can get into, that relieves it? is it always the same leg?
well look up those things and see if they describe what you're going through.

don't let your doctor scare you into radical treatments like sugery. if you're not suffering from weakness and your leg isn't cold, then your nerves aren't blocked at the root, and you can respond to yoga, physical therapy and/or chiropractic. talk to people, get the advice from people who are going through the same thing and what they did/are doing about it. remember, doctors make their money by selling drugs and surgery. sometimes you have to be really adament that you're against these things in order for them to even advise you on the alternatives. sometimes they will out and out lie and tell you there are no alternatives. and they may tell you that the drugs they're prescribing are benign. in fact, i had a doctor tell me vioxx was safer than tylenol, and that if i need to take anything, take a vioxx. take it daily, in fact, he said. it couldn't hurt, as he wrote the prescription with his spiffy $80 vioxx pen.
but my nerves get excited, and don't calm down when they should. this is a result of inflammation. the best thing that works for me, and i have taken the big-ass name brand drugs for it, was plain old advil. when i need to, i would take more than one, but it was always better than vioxx, celebrex, and the other COX2 inhibitor. they prescribed me naprosyn once, but being essentially the same thing as ibuprofen, i didn't see a need to fill the precription.
my point was, you've obviously got a nerve pinched somewhere. on this, doctors and alternative healers like chiropractors and yogis differ pretty adamently. even physical therapy, which is part of a "conventional medical treatment" umbrella, is known to work just as well as conventional methods like surgery or drug therapy. if it's not bad, they would probably send you home with an Rx for an anti inflammatory, which is fine if you need relief, but it doesn't fine what's pinching your nerve and unpinch it. yoga and PT have been known to work as well, and better for a lot of people, because the effects are lasting.
but i have no idea what's pinching your nerve. if you can find out, that's the most useful information to have, even if you're going to reject treatment. if you've got insurance, it's well worth it to go for the MRI or whatever scan you can to find the source of the impingement. because most likely it's some condition like a slight scoliosis, which will not go away and just get worse as you get older, and you'll have to know how to manage it for the rest of your life. once you know, you can work on it yourself with exercises or what have you, and if it worsens to where you are considering conventional treatments, you have a baseline.
try not to let your doctor dismiss you. when i went in my spinal cord was blocked like 70%, and he sent me home telling me to take a bath and take "me time," because it's christmas and we're all stressed..... if i got treatment when i sought it, i'd have a good leg and i'd be able to have more kids. it can be awkward, but you really have to expect not to be taken seriously and insist that you're here to find answers so it wouldn't make sense to leave without them.
sciatic nerve??
I don't know if that's what you have, but if it is, the only thing that helped for me was a trip to the chiropractor, and 2 visits to the acupuncturist. I had it the week after I gave birth, and one more trip to the acupuncturist and I've never seen it again.

I get that feeling sometimes when I crack my neck, and also in my arm when I bump my elbow just right. Oh, and also in my hand when I am straining it on something small. It's kind of frustrating/funny because I'm an electrician (in theater/film, not licensed) and it sometimes happens to me and takes me a moment to figure out whether or not I was really shocked. It hasn't been so much of a problem that I've sought any help for it. The hand thing is pretty new, in the past year or so, too. My dad had a freaky knife injury in his hand, and complained of the same thing while he was recovering.

There is no way I am having surgery for this! Its not that bad. If it was constant, I would consider it. It is so sporadic. No, I dont have the coldness or tingling. After the shock, which lasts one second. I will also not take drugs for it. I just want to find out why it is happening - I am more concerned about the underlying cause than alleviating the symptoms.
I cant believe a doctor told you to take a vioxx instead of tylenol!
