Let's hear it for his honor, De Mayor!
Sometimes, I swear, I love Chicago so much it isn't even funny.
The City of Chicago has had a longstanding informal policy of NON-cooperation with the INS when it comes to ratting out illegal immigrants who seek out city services. Now, according to tonight's NPR story, Mayor Daley is seeking to pass a formal ordinance that makes it city policy to refuse to cooperate with INS investigations because, in the words of Daley's spokesman, "The City of Chicago does not want to be in the business of separating families or denying necessary social services to the people, whoever they are."
Yeah! You know, when the political machine is Your political machine, it doesn't seem so bad.
Go, Mayor Daly. I'm startled, but pleased.
BTW, are you around Chicago? I'm in the northwest 'burbs.
That sounds fun. Don't know how long it will take, however, as I am occasionally the coward about going new places, especially in cities. I will save up some courage for you guys.
I'm the "other one." Haven't been on here much. Gotta' have a big Chicago mama meetup sometime.
Oh - I'm all teary. Love those Daley's. Miss them to death. The machine works, sometimes. Gulp.
"Step off my big ass."

every time you post abt chicago I turn green with envy. I lived there for a couple of years (uptown and andersonville) and I swear it was the best place I've ever lived by far. Anyway, enjoy, are cheetah gym and svea still open? And Simon's? I was really crushed out on the weekend doorman there for awhile...ahhh youth!
What is it with all of us Uptown/Andersonville ladies? I swear, just about every single Chicagoan I meet here is from there, too.

On the northend--Andersonville/Edgewater-ish. Next time your down this way, we should do a mama meetup. There's another one, right here in the neighborhood, and AtenaMom is up north of here, just a bit.
