Book recommendations, anyone?

I just finished reading "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time" and it was lovely. I highly, highly recommend it. The last paragraph is a zinger.

Now I'm in need of a new one, and nothing's shouting out to me from the bookcases. Anyone? Mrs. Sauce? Whatcha got?

Oh, I forgot this one - a friend brought it to me last time I was in the hospital: the biography Fanny Stevenson, "A Romance of Destiny". It's a biography of Robert Louis Stevenson's wife, Fanny Osbourne. It sounds more tedious than it is - she was a KICK ASS woman in the 1800's, had lovers and worked the gold mines in CA, very empowering read.

so many books, so little time

that was a great book!
My favorites right now are Cloud Atlas (but not "The Cloud Atlas"), For the time Being by Annie Dillard, Fugitive Peices by Anne Michaels, THe Dogs of Babel, Ahabs Wife and The 4 spirits, both by Sena Jeter Naslund, the Jodi Picoult books are all pretty good, Animal Dreams by Barbara Kingsolver, and other stuff by her too, On Beauty by Zadie Smith, As the Crow Flies, the timetravellers wife, until i find you, (sorry, but i am typing one handed now due to baby) a reasonable life, the sparrow - too many to list, many very different from each other.

I'll second these!

Loved Cloud Atlas - David Mitchell is becoming a new favorite. The Time travelers wife kept me sane through 4am feeding when A was first born. Got On Beauty for Christmas and can't wait to get started. I'd recommend anything by Margaret Atwood, Haruki Murakami, or Michael Chabon. Also just read Freakonomics....really interesting and a quick read.

Oldish, but "Brick Lane" by

Oldish, but "Brick Lane" by Monica Ali is a winner - kind of sapped out ending, though.

Even older but one of my favorites - "The Poisonwood Bible" by Barbara Kingsolver.

If you can stomach Anne Tyler, which many can't, but I love her, "The Amateur Marriage" is good.

Let me know what you find out, I'm in need of a good read that I haven't devoured 25 times already!

Will check it all out.

THanks.

I was just talking about that book!

The main character is supposed to have Asperger's.

I wish I could read for recreation right now - I have to read 25 parenting / pregnancy books for my school.

Yeah, he does

and it's a first-person narrator, which could have been really tricky and hokey. But it's really, really wonderful. Seriously. I couldn't put the fucking thing down. Just so absolutely heartbreaking and funny and gutwrenching. Loved it. Wish I had written it. It's that good.
