stick some garlic in your ear

DH just brought DS to our homeopathic doctor (he is also an MD) for the 9 month visit. ds has been sick with a cold for about a week (with a fever for the past 4/5 days) and the doc said that it looks like his right ear is a bit inflammed. and suggested that we take a slice of garlic, wrapped in cotton and dipped in oil and put it in his ear before he goes to bed. i'm all for alternative remedies, but i am not sure how the antibacterial properties of the garlic will get through the cotton. . .weird, eh?

we did it

and he seemed to be better this morning, plus his room smelled like garlic (which is far better than stinky diaper)! glad to hear that this is a tried and true method.

Probably the oil carries it.

Probably the oil carries it.

it works!

hi pence,

i hope that your baby gets better.

i've been using raw garlic for years, it always does the job!

i peel it, cut just the right size, *don't want it gettin' stuck!*, and puncture it a few times. then place it in my ear, and let it sit their for awhile.

*garlic oil w/ mullen also works well*.

it's always great when you have a yeast infection, too. i'll use it the same way, and keep it up their for 24 hours, *or until my body let's it go*.

keep rockin' the garlic ladies.

love,

dc

hot salt sock

my mama did this with the hot salt sock treatment: first the garlic, then a sock with heated sea salt inside. iodized salt is not right. she also made garlic oil (with olive oil) to drop on there. I see now you can buy garlic oil at the health food store.

It totally works. This, and

It totally works. This, and massaging below the ear, cleared up DS's reccurring ear infections IMEEDIATELY.

when I had an outter ear infection

or what I thought was,I used Herbs For Kids' garlic & willow oil. Soaked a cotton ball and put it in my ear at night. Cleared up in about 2 days.

we use onion

put it through a garlic press (ironically) and a few drops of the juice in the ear. magic. i wouldn't put it past garlic to work like you described though.

never doubt the healing

never doubt the healing power of garlic. I have nipped so many infections in th ebud with raw garlic I can't even count 'em. When I was a kid I had a staph infection, cured with garlic. Mastitis, knocked down with garlic, pneumonia can't even stand up to garlic. I have thought of getting a tatoo of a garlic bulb I believe in garlic that much.

yup or smash it with with a mortar and pestle, mix with a little olive oil and apply as a paste. To eat a raw clove I cut it up in wee pieces and toss them back like a pill. I will warn you though, your sweat and anything else that comes out of your body will stink like garlic.

did having mastitis affect

did having mastitis affect my nursing or did the garlic affect my nursing? Well mastitis is horrible so it did for a little bit but I think my baby was so used to my heavy garlic consumption that garlicky milk wasn't a shock to him. He was (and is) more sensitive to dairy and refined sugars than anything else. When he was like one year old (and still today) a favorite treat is a big garlicky kosher pickle.

*edit* I forgot that when I had mastitis one of the things I did was make a garlic paste with olive oil and apply it to the affected area on my boob, then wrap it in saran wrap and put a hot wet compress on it. That really worked fast. Mr. sauce came home and said 'smells great in here what's for dinner?' and I just flashed him my garlicky, saran wrap covered boob. He was kinda shocked.
