Relocation Help
I am looking for some advice. My DH and I are looking to relocate. (hopefully somewhere back up North) We don't really know where to go. We would like to be with in a few hours (4-5 tops) of my family near Pittsburgh. I REALLY need the help. We would really like to be in an area that is ok with our value systems. Meaning that, people won't look at me sideways when I tell them I am a vegetarian, married to a Jewish boy, who makes her own, organic baby food, and does not want her daughter to play with Barbie or video games. Also want to be in an area with some more progressive thoughts on education. Of course the DH has to be able to get a job there. Anybody out there in Hip Mama land live in a community, or have a suggestion of a community like this? We are open to any ideas.
Too bad you can't move your family out here, sounds like you would fit in JUST fine. Good luck with the search.

Move to North Dakota. Then you can hang with me. Oh, wait - you said progressive. Sorry.
How far North is North? Madison, Wisconsin is an AWESOME town - hip, fun, beautiful - great place to raise kids.

I live in the Burgh with my ds and dh. We go to the toy lending library, museums, there are stitch and bitches, and no one I know would care if you were married to a jewish guy, or that you are veg (we all are- dh is vegan), or that you make your own food.
I really enjoy it here, and it seems to be pretty progressive.
More mamas should be here.
I haven't lived in Philadelphia in years, but I loved it when I did. It's more affordable than neighboring DC and NYC, but has many of the cultural advantages. Not sure about the schools; I wasn't a parent when I lived there.
Pittsburgh itself is supposed to be nice too, although I have no direct experience with it.
