Feed those babies curry!
I came across this article and it made me think of you and your boy, Sugarhiccup.
"Ditch the rice cereal and mashed peas, and make way for enchiladas, curry and even - gasp! - hot peppers. It's time to discard everything you think you know about feeding babies. It turns out most advice parents get about weaning infants onto solid foods - even from pediatricians - is more myth than science."
It actually says that feeding your baby those processed rice and grain cereals is equal to adding white sugar to formula, in the effects it has on blood sugar. I'm glad they're finally discouraging it, yuck! who, baby or not, would want to eat that goop? Here is the link
Yep, he loves it. Gets his vegetables that way too. I've posted a lot of recipes on the site and all of them he loves! Chickpea curry, cauliflower curry, keema (spiced ground beef and peas), etc. I just mix them with rice and serve. Yum. My MIL is going to love feeding him. All of the other kids in the family just eat plain rice and plain scrambled eggs!
Yeah, we barter with the owner of our local indian restaurant, so we go weekly. I mix Z's with yoghurt instead of rice, and she is happy as a clam.
Cuts the spices a bit, like raita does. Have you given her some nice cucumber riata? I bet she would love that. I was as happy as a clam when I found BROWN basmati rice in my supermarket! Good stuff.
No, I haven't given her riata, but it is so funny, they accidentally brought that to our table tonight. I thought about using it, but instead asked for the usual plain yoghurt. I haven't had raita, but it sounds similar to tzazicki (sp?? -greek-) sauce.
It is very bland, next time try it! The purpose of it is to cut the heat of a fiery dish. Perfectly ok for babies as long as you check for any big cucumber pieces.
I heard that rice cereal is one of the worst things you can give little ones. They would be much happier with some home made mashed potatoes with butter and salt(just a little). I know my little man was.
they all love curries and its so much more satisfying to feed them. willow just turns his head away now if i try to give him anything more traditionally acceptable for babies. smarty pants
Thank you! I have said this in like 5 posts lately. Yes, mine eats Tom ka gai, curry, mutter paneer, aloo gobi, masala, green salads, spinach, kale, salsa. And I only give her brown rice. I don't think I'll end up with one of those kids who only eats chicken nuggets and cinnamon toast. (fingers crossed).
Tom ka gai.
Mine loves miso soup with seaweed too...

Z had curry today!
Too much grains, esp those crappy cereals, lead to higher risk of type one diabetes and celiac disease. Fruits, veg and fish and chicken for my little dude, as much as I can

We weren't planning on feeding ds cereals, cause we knew they sucked, but we were trying to figure out what would be good. An article with comon sense is always a good kick-me-in-the-ass remedy for over thinking it.

as soon as my babes could eat semi-solids and solids, my ex MIL was over at my house showing me how to make kibbi, tabouli, hummus, and dolmas(with lamb and basmati). they LOVED it. I don't make it as much a i should, but the munchkins still want hummus with every meal. For breakfast we still mix zatar (a blend of dried greens/seasonings you can find in most middle eastern groceries) with olive oil, and spread it on a pita. toast in the oven for a few minutes, then spread a little lebni on top (yogurt type dairy product, also at mid. eastern grocer-yummy). the kids love it.

i'm definitely guilty of feeding ds bland food - even though dh and i have the broadest palate imaginable and i definitely want ds to be an inquisitive eater. i wish i had come across this 6 months ago. better late than never i suppose!
