Abominable Abdomnials

Earlier this week I had an emergency surgery on my appendix. OUCH!!! It was caught before it ruptured, thankfully.

The recovery hurts like hell and i just have three small incisions. I hear all this "too posh to push" crap and all I can think of now is how is must be to have a c-section and try to care for a newborn!

Has anyone out there had an apendectomy? I'd love to hear your stories and any tips for recovery.

Thanks Trula.

I am glad we got to the ER before it ruptured, too. I didn't think it was that serious but my husband remembered his Dads appendix erupting so he really encouraged me to get it checked out. It's a miracle I actually got somewhere early Smile

Yes, the fantasy world where birth hurts and is dangerous but surgery doesn't and isn't.
So sorry!! I wish you a few pain pills and and a quick recovery!

ooooh ouch

never had an appendectomy, but i did have a c section. one thing i learned, listen to the doctor who tells you to take it easy. it hurts like a bitch to pop one of those internal stitches. (do they use those in appendectomies?) let it heal a good long time before you're doing the hardcore pilates.

hope you feel better soon.

Ok, I will take it easy. My

Ok, I will take it easy. My kids are at their grandparents for the day so I am just going to try to heal today. I don't know if I have interntal stitches. I was so anxious to get out, I didn't want to ask any more questions!

if it was laproscopic

then they may not have needed to cut you, therefore no internal stitches.

there are three 1/2 inch incisions

And there are stitches on the outside but Im not sure of the internal ones. You are right, probably for such small incisions they don't have internal ones. Although, I think they put internal stiches in the colon from where they removed the appendix.

youch!

Yeah, I've heard c-sections are a bitch to recover from. People don't think about that I guess. Do you have any family to help out? Hope you feel better soon.

My husbands parents live

My husbands parents live near where he works (and where the hospital is) so they have had the girls for three days in a row. Luckily, they are retired so are flexible and have been so enormously helpful. I have to think of a nice way to thank them.

Thanks sugarhiccup.

Thanks Gigi

It is so hard not to pick them up! But I just can't. They have been pretty understanding so far (but I've only seen them about 6 hours since Sunday) Sad We will be doing a lot of cuddling in bed to make up for it.

How are you doing today? Still feeling awful?

ouchie!

i know that pain! (from my cesarian) i think it's funny too how there is this idea that women who have cesarians are somehow avoiding pain - ummm, try standing up after major abdominal surgery. ouch!

take it easy, boomer lady.

Don't pick up the kids!

Don't pick up the kids! Don't vaccuum! Don't push a stroller!

REALLY! I heard all of that after my c-section, did all three, and wound up with popped stitches and an incision that WOULD NOT heal for months.

Take care of yourself, feel better, and many thanks for mentioning all of us c-section lovelies!

That sounds painful! I will be very careful. They said 6 weeks before I should lift anything over 20lbs. Really, no pushing the stroller? That was the one thing I was hoping would still be OK but I now that I think of it, that does used lots of abdominals doesnt it. Crapper.

Thanks for your good wishes mamasusie.

July

I had mine out at the end of July. I also had the laproscopic. I thought it totally sucked. I really think it was worse than my c-section. Sounds crazy but after the c-section I had S to occupy me. After months of anticipation she was finally there for me to hold her and love her up. Secondly, as a newborn, S weighed just under 8 pounds. She was 16-months when I had my appendix out and she was a 25 pounder then. Way harder to pick up! Plus, she is way more wiggly now and I took a couple of sharp elbows to the incision when we were trying to have quiet time with her sitting on my lap.

It took me a full two weeks to recover from the appendectomy and the bigger of the three incisions still hurts sometimes.

Take care of yourself!!!!
