while I slept.
While I have been buzzing along in my merry little world and my life is so good right now, the country and world have been falling apart.
The flooding in New Orleans, likely preventable by our government.
The fricking media and their coverage on looting in N.O.
The massive deaths of religious pilgtrams in Iraq, partially preventable by our gonverment (if they would get the heck OUT of there).
Now the NY times puts out an article that states "In all, 64 percent (of those polled) said they were open to the idea of teaching creationism in addition to evolution, while 38 percent favored replacing evolution with creationism."
Now this is from the "Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life and the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press" It comes off as truth! HOw irresponsible is this? If we did a poll conducted by the "Mothers for a better future for thier children Foundation" here on Hipmama, we could completely reverse those numbers. How can they publish bias as truth?!
I am so sick of it all... I absolutley hate what our country is becoming. and I feel we will be stuck with it for another 3 freaking years. with their stupid "fend for youself" attitude of the well-off.
So much can happen in 3 years! It creeeps me out. Grrrr....
My GoD! I can't even excailm without a freaking "GOD" in there! If life were any other way, it would be different and we would all be walking around with 2 heads and 3 arms saying, "boy, we are so perfect! Could you imagine having only 1 head? There is no way this could happen by accitdent! It must be a supreme being!"
get the F@%# over it!!!!!!!
*EDIT* Just want to say I have no issues with people who believe in creationism or intelligent design. No issue what-so-ever. I just don't want it taught as science in schools in a country that is supposedly secular. Just irritated with the direction the creepy Christians are taking our government, And for any future reference, You guys here are not the creepy ones, you are the normal ones.
"certified kick ass by dreammama"
about the total lack of science in Intelligent Design, and how it would only be appropriate for a RELIGION class or comparative philosophy, etc, but had no place in a biology class or textbook.
Just another example of the missed focus of Bush. His denial of global warming also is contributing to the hurricane strength. Ha! Pinned it on him again!

To support your penchant for blaming Bush, read this:

The article wanders off toward the end, but the main thrust of the article is interesting.
Then to really get you going, read this:

Note the...what is the word, irony?(help me) of the fact that monies moved to homeland security away from those projects may now be used to justify further funding to homeland security because that is the department in charge of aiding this "Incidence of National Significance."
I don't have it in me to blame Bush or the Republicans for a hurricane and I think there is far too much finger pointing and blaming behavior going on right now (i.e. "They should have known to leave!"). However, these articles do remind me of the typical dichotomy between a progressive approach (pay for prevention) vs. a conservative one (pay for the "cure").
I have almost too much sadness in me right now to be thinking along these lines and not simply wallowing in depression. I'm finding my personal reaction to be very similar to that I had after 9/11 or the tsunami or other tragic news events.
Maybe the oil companies could earmark some or all of their windfall profits to help the Gulf coast population, you know, the one which works for/in their industry. (yeah, I hear you snorting)
Well, my smile lasted very briefly and is now gone, but thanks for the moment, sf.
I know just what you mean, I am truly scared about what this country is becoming. And as a single welfare mama, I am personally feeling what is being done to our country's own (poor) citizens. I see how they care so little for us and our children, so I'm not sure why I am surprised at the way our government treats those in other countries. I want to leave. I feel like our voices and opinions don't count one bit. I think I may need to stay away from all news sources for a while to keep myself sane.
I'm ashamed to be an American.
There is no way I could possibly list all of the atrocities we've committed and my reactions to them. I just feel sick.
I have learnt silence from the talkative, toleration from the intolerant, and kindness from the unkind; yet strange, I am ungrateful to these teachers.

My son flipped out yesterday when he heard on the news that some extremist christian fundamentalist group was saying that recent disasters are God's punishment for the U.S. allowing gays to live. Apparently this group was chased away from 2 soldier's funerals, which they were picketing (!!!) claiming that the soldier's deaths were due to the existance of gays. Who knew I was so powerful? And why is just about everything the extremist christians preach the exact OPPOSITE of what Jesus preached? I follow Jesus, not his followers... he was cool, man.

Jesus was a liberal.

guess they didn't go to this church, too bad
* I'm all fight and no flight *
i luv it!
oh my god! is that a real confession: "Turns out we were wrong! Jesus Loves Everyone!!!!" Where is this church - what's the story behind the admission? Could you tell us more? I'm having difficulty dealing with some very strict (hmmm, narrow?) Christians at my son's supposedly secular school. I wish those people would take a leaf out of this Baptist Church's book. Very good point, too about the strict type of Christians failing to follow Jesus' wise example of dealing respectfully with a wide range of people.
I want the inclusive Baptist people to come and talk to the unapproachable Christians near me.
not real. www.churchsigngenerator.com
Now I've smiled twice in one thread, and I wasn't even going to bother reading HM today. Glad I did.
I go to a church exactly like that, except of course it says Unitarian Universalist on the sign.
