Upgrade stuff part deux
THE BUDDY LIST
You guys are putting WAY too much emphasis on and thought into the buddy list. Granted I am a fringe member of your community--I exist here mostly to take care of the tech work--so I have but a fleeting understanding of history here, but sheesh! 
Buddy list functionality is Drupal's way of allowing members of large, busy communities (like this one) to keep track of each other. With posts scrolling by so quickly, you might miss something from someone that means a lot to you. The buddy list makes it so that you don't miss one of those posts.
THAT'S ALL.
Any other meaning attached to the buddy list is something you guys are reading into it. It is a bookmarking tool. Nothing more. It says nothing about anything.
(Note to self: Don't even think about installing friend-of-a-friend software here...)

I note there are many enthusiastic recipe-givers. You now have a recipe section. Use it!

cool, I get it now that I have been playing around with it. just a way to keep up with someone's writing who I like, nothing more. But it is flattering when you realize someone wants to keep up with whay you write,too. myself, on late nights when I need to veg, I read it all.
I hate to be the one who keeps saying 'i miss this', the upgrades are rad, but...
I really miss the user profiles and found them very helpful and informative. They provided context. And it would be so interesting to find out that the person who was teling me how to get my baby unplugged was from Australia or Tasmania or something. It gave me a sense of a feeling of a worldwide motherhood community. Some people don't fill theirs out, so if they needed to be anon. then they could. Just my .02. i miss it. (it is gone, isn't it)
oy, I'm sorry. I'm glad to see it. Last night I was clicking on lots of folks and didn't see a one, but it must have been that they didn't have profiles...and I assumed they were gone. cool thanks, sorry to bother you.
if you have a question, ask, it's not a bother.
and I can't figure out how to add mine back. I keep getting an error message. This worked last night, a bunch of mamas had pictures up.

Thanks for all you do around here, Lynn. I like the buddy list feature, it makes it easier to see what folks I usually read have written. 
I love the "track" feature under "my account".

It may be that one of the site producers decided that that block was annoying/divisive/whatever and turned it off. No sabe.
It moved to the right side ... trying to make everything hang together in a logical way....
