okay, i've seen enough mamas on here reference the brilliance that is buffy the vampire slayer to think this might be a topic enjoyed here.
right up there with the great characters and positive female {and male} role models, one of my favorite things about buffy is the great dialogue. what are some of your favorites, mamas?
i'll start with one from an episode we watched {for the what? millioneth time?} last night:
"we can't save the world in jail." ~faith
ps angel quotes welcome, too.

yes, i'm a dork for anwering myself
but i have a million favorite buffy quotes, so here are a couple more:
"thanks for the Dadaist pep talk. i feel much more abstract now." ~buffy {this is actually the line that got me hooked on the show.}
and a gem from willow:
"occasionally, i'm callous and strange."
ooooh, and there's even a searchable dialogue database, so you can get your quotes right to the word:

ANYTHING Anya says!!!
I looove anya, and I also love that Buffy totally runs like a girl. I fought so hard against liking that show, but by the time it came to the final episode-my dh and I were glued to the tv to see what happened...and I cried...because Spike died:(

For a slayer, buffy sure sucks at running. I always thought that, too.

I did love watching him gain preggo weight with his wife, tho!
He goes from buff to doughy as soon as he's married and his wife is pregnant. She lost the weight, but he didn't! I think it's cute! ;)
Film used to be my whole world, I even won awards and s**t. Now all I care about is being a Mama and jamming some girl, or punching her while I fly by on skates.

here i go again on my own
yes, a whitesnake reference. i already said i was a dork.
anyway, here's one of my favorites from the angel series:
CORDELIA: Oh, god. I'm sorry! I'm getting all weepy in front of you. I probably look really scary. I finally get invited to a nice place - with no mirrors and lots of curtains... hey, you're a vampire!
RUSSELL: What? No, I'm not.
CORDELIA: Are too!
RUSSELL: I don't know what you're talking about.
CORDELIA: I'm from Sunnydale. We had our own Hellmouth! I think I know a vampire when I... am alone with him... in his fortress-like home. And you know, I think I'm just feeling a little light headed from hunger. I'm just wacky. And kidding! Ha, ha

Buffy lover here
But i am no good at remebering quotes. Although I can ramble on and describing my favorite scenes. One of my faveorite buffy episopes is the jeckle/hyde abusive boyfriend. I always loved the way that dealt with real high school then adult issues through the use of monsters.
Oh yeah and the scene when B runs away to LA and she is in the slave hell and at one point is holding up a syckle and hammer, when fighting the slave drivers.
My spelling sucks.
I used to be somebody, but wanted to be someone else.

jekyl/hyde
see, now that episode kinda sits wrong with me. i mean, there are plenty of boyfriends who don't need a magic potion to become abusive assholes, ya know? they probably set it up that way so they could kill him off, but still. plus, the girlfriend dies, too. yes, many women die at the hands of abusers, but it just felt like the implication was it was her fault 'cuz she stayed with him. buffy says something about her being "broken". i dunno. maybe i'm just being to hard on the show, but they usually do so well with stuff.
hey, i never made the communist symbolism connection with that scene - that's great! i love the layers to these shows!

That was how I felt about it the first time
But after watching it a couple more times, I think they get deeper with it. He blames the potion and his gf, like all abusers, but in the end it is him not the potion. Another thing they do is that it is not Buffy who kills him, so he wasn't really a "monster". Yes I agree they show a lack of compassion for the gf, but I think they did a good job with not just sidestepping abuse.

The one where they all lose their memories and they confuse who is related to who and in what way. Willow accidentially falls down on top of Tara and says "I think I may be gay..."
Oh, and I cried cried cried when Tara got killed.

When Tara died it was so sad and then when Xander saved Willow, I was sobbing. So well done.
The body is also such a good one. They did a great job killing Buffy's mom, wellhow did it and handled it. You know what I mean.

stevedores
i love the part in the buffy in faith's body episode where she's trying to convince giles she's herself and they end up having this exchange:
BUFFY: Oh! 'Cause, uh, Ethan Rayne. And-and you have a girlfriend named Olivia. And you haven't had a job since we blew up the school --which is valid, lifestyle wise. I mean, it's not like you're a slacker type, but . . . Oh, oh! When I had psychic power, I heard my mom think that you were like a stevedore during sex. Wh--? Do you want me to continue?
GILES: Actually, I beg you to stop.
BUFFY: What's a stevedore?

it's not memory
buffy just got burned into my brain while i sat in a chair with sleeping dd on my chest . . . and yes, okay, i've watched them all a million times aside from that, too.
the halloween episode is great. when ghost-willow walks through the library wall and startles giles, it's one of the few times in the whole run of the show when he is actually flustered. cracks me up every single time. yup, i'm a total geek, but i haven't been to a buffcon . . . yet. here's a great piece of dialogue from that halloween episode:
WILLOW: That's not a demon. It's a car.
BUFFY: What does it want?
XANDER: Is this woman insane?

anya's vows for rollermama
ANYA: 'I, Anya, promise to cherish you...' Ew, no, not cherish. Uh, 'I promise...' '...to have sex with you whenever ... *I* want, and, uh... uh, pledge to be your friend, and your wife, and your confidant, and your sex poodle...'
TARA: Uh, sex poodle?
ANYA: Yeah, why?
TARA: Um, I'm not sure you should say 'sex poodle' in your vows.
ANYA: Huh.
