great trip to the grocery store!

hah! how many times do you hear those words ... especially from a mother of a 3yo boy! :)

i just wanted to share that my son and i had a blast at trader joe's yesterday. why? how? i drew him a shopping list! that's right, drew him a list! i drew a banana and wrote bananas next to it. i did the same for avocado, milk (drew a milk carton), and cat food (drew a bag with cat head and a can with a cat head). i gave him this shopping list and went over it with him, then gave him a crayon to cross items off. he walked through the store quite professionally with list in hand, searching for his items. he knew what they all were, didn't need any correcting, and he knew where to find everything except the cat food. he was busy on his mission that he didn't have time to dally or get upset about something or run away ... and since he was on his feet doing something, we didn't argue about riding in the cart. he was even polite and professional about asking to add cereal and a fruit snack to the list, which we did! it was great.

perhaps an idea to try ... if you have a big trip to make, lots of things to buy, perhaps a list with items from each area that you need and while your child is looking for say bananas, you can also pick up apples and spinach ... just a thought! it was really fun. for both of us. :)
