Random Things I'm Noodling On

The boss recommended I read Steve Jobs' bio, so I did. It was alright. I think with tighter editing it would have been more enjoyable for me, but I got pretty good about just skimming when I couldn't read another line about how he thought normal rules didn't apply to him. Once you've drilled a bit home, you can let it go... But, it was interesting, both for the things he was very successful at as well as the things he was extraordinarily human and flawed at. All the examples of things done really well, and so many examples of how *not* to do things.

Next book up for me is a project management book, Making Things Happen. I read the first version of it, but since my front line leads have been asking for stuff in that area, we're making a reading group out of it. Never hurts to refresh.

Tonight during dinner a tiny bird flew into one of our big glass windows in the living room. It did not survive, poor little thing. Paul took it out and buried it after we finished eating. M2 said, "it makes me sad when the little critters die." Me too, sweetie, me too.

M1 decided to learn guitar. M2 decided to learn ukulele. M2 gets upset when she's plunking away on her little ukulele and M1 comes and drowns her out. The temptation to teach M2 banjo is immense, but probably best advised not to take that escalating route at our house or there will be peace no more!

Am a little annoyed. Out of all the stuff I ordered last week from Amazon, the only thing that hasn't come yet is Paul's father's day gift. WTH universe? Srsly? Meh.

Time to get the monkeys into pajamas, get their teeth brushed, and get them to bed, I suppose.

Birds trying to fly through windows is definitely one of the top things I do not miss about home: very sad. The big plate glass windows reflecting trees confuses everyone, I know grown humans who have tried to walk through sliding doors. Ugh.

Father's Day! Oh no! I'm a failure, my children don't care about these holidays, and the stores are closed on Sunday.... sigh.

Happy Father's Day to your charming companion! Please tell him he is one of the best, kindest, most amazing dads I've ever met!!

Oh, some one famous recently walked through a plate glass window and died from the injuries... Can't remember who it was now though.

Miraculously, this was the first casualty, unless the dead bird we found downstairs was the same situation, which I suppose could be the case. Poor little birdies. I hate to go the owl replica route, but perhaps should consider it. We'll see how the summer goes.

I will pass along your wishes. Happy Father's Day to Byron as well! If it's any consolation, I totally forget to get anyone cards and am, once again, making the girls make cards to cover for my failings.

I do! I decided to teach myself banjo while teaching my oldest guitar, and decided to teach myself ukulele while teaching my youngest uke... It is fun, and highly recommended!

My oldest is really into music and plays several instruments. Maybe I will try to play with him some this summer. He has enjoyed teaching me stuff in the past, probably because of the role reversal!

Do it! I'm thinking of making my oldest try to teach me cello... :)
