Babalu

Submitted by lapina on Wed, 07/30/2008 - 1:38pm.

Dog ownership is wild.

Here is my second child

Poor Ike is suffering from jealousy and I am lucky Baba can take his abuse (which he gets in deep shit for, but keeps doing anyway). He learned not to blow in his face after Baba punched him with his nose.--read more >>

New piano and I lost my kid...

Submitted by lapina on Wed, 07/23/2008 - 10:31pm.

I got a new 108 year old piano yesterday. I am so lucky that my husband and stepdad didn't say "hell no" and got it the couple of miles to my house. It was a real ordeal.

D@mn Creativity (or general lack thereof)

Submitted by lapina on Mon, 06/30/2008 - 8:25pm.

So once again a swap-bot swap deadline has arrived with me not ready. I just spent way too much of my time today trying to come up with something not sucky for a Dotee swap (if you don't know what it is, just play along, I barely know either).

I am not sure if this is really cute or ugly as hell.

I named it Trash-E The recycling Robot. I used recycled fabric, part of a root beer bottle, some laminated candy bar wrapper and some other bits of crap laying around. Poor swap partner.

Ike's Foreskin (TMI)

Submitted by lapina on Fri, 06/27/2008 - 1:46pm.

Nice title.

This is an after the fact post, because I always forget to blog about these things in a timely fashion.

Ike's pee has been cloudy for awhile. I have been thinking he has a UTI, because we hear UTI this, UTI that. UTI due to an evil foreskin blah blah blah.

Two days ago he said his penis hurt. So instead of staying the natural mama course and keeping an eye on it, I made an appointment to see a doc. Before going I gave him a bath with tea tree oil in the water. --read more >>

Starting a community group

I want to start a fiber arts community group and I haven't the faintest idea of where to begin.

Hit me with your insight mama's!

More Yarn, a Hellgrammite and 3 cousins gone fishing

Submitted by lapina on Sun, 06/22/2008 - 3:16am.

Today we took Ike and his 2 cousins J and S fishing at a local trout farm/fishing farm. It was a wild experience really. I like the idea of fishing at a farm vs the wild. You have to keep what you hook and you fish sparingly because it cost more. The ponds were FULL of fish. You dropped in your worm and bam! DH and I didn't fish because 3 kids fishing is enough of a job.

My third post of the day ~ New Spinning Wheel ~

Submitted by lapina on Thu, 06/19/2008 - 6:12pm.

Well, new/old.

A couple of weeks ago I went to a thrift store in the metro with my mother. Sometimes they have weird antique things that have been donated. I looked up behind the counter on a high shelf and saw a castle wheel I was instantly taken with.
I calmly asked to see it (don't want to spook them into questioning the price tag). Looked it over and tried not to squeak out "I think I will take it".
It was my mystery wheel.--read more >>

Finding my people

Submitted by lapina on Thu, 06/19/2008 - 2:58pm.

I forgot to blog about attending my first spinning group!

I had gone to our local fiber shop (which is crazy considering there aren't any in the metro and we have one in a town over that has a population of less than a 1000) to buy flax to try for spinning. I found out they were starting a new spinning group!

So I headed over hoping to find some cool people.

We were all surprised when around 24 people showed up. Yay! --read more >>

Swap bot mama's

Submitted by lapina on Thu, 06/19/2008 - 6:48am.

For the Dishcloth swap.
I busted my arse to get this skein done tonight. The due date is Friday, but I don't want to wait to the very end...just the day before the very end to send it. ha!

Purple Blue Face Leicester skein of 2-ply. My swap partner likes purple yarn and it was easier then somehow incorporating American Labor History with her love of Terriers.

Dragonfly (don't laugh, it is my first big dishcloth with a pattern)--read more >>

The saga of Babalu

Submitted by lapina on Tue, 06/10/2008 - 12:00am.

The newest drama for my stray sweetie Babalu...

I noticed he had an old animal bite on his back knee. I set up another vet appointment and had a few hours of worrying about a rabid dog in my house.

I love our vet. he said "if he has rabies, he is dead, nothing you can do about it". Basically if he comes down with it (anytime from now to 6 months later) he will die within a few days and everyone will have to have post-exposure treatment.

So vibes please for Babalu the wonder dog. Vibes that we get to keep him longer than 6 months!

Update on Stray Birthday Dog...

Submitted by lapina on Sun, 06/08/2008 - 12:17pm.

The day after we found him, he pooped out...well it was something gross enough to take him to the vet. One thing led to another and the amount we paid made him our dog.

Run down of doggie X:
Probably lab/springer spaniel, and goodness knows what else.
57 pounds (he could stand to gain about 5)
Now up to date on shots. Funny, how I am anti-vax for Ike but totally into it for a dog. Of course my kid doesn't like to eat bunnies or poop.--read more >>

This Wisconsin Life - My birthday has a green retro singer, a trip to some gov offices and a stray dog on the highway

Submitted by lapina on Sat, 06/07/2008 - 12:38am.

3:00 AM I woke up, on this, my birthday. I am 33 today.

I screwed around on the computer and drank coffee for phase one of Claire's birthday extravaganza (2 hours).

Today I put in my special hair. You may laugh, but I bet you don't have iron straight hair either! I found a great human hair fall that matches my hair at the thrift store, don't worry I washed it...but this piece has a tiny amount of BODY, which when put into a ponytail doesn't look like it belongs on the ass end of a horse.--read more >>

A PSA about CFL's (or how my house could have burned down yesterday)

Submitted by lapina on Thu, 06/05/2008 - 2:38pm.

I love the term for a burned out CFL light bulb.
End of Life. Ha! There is a reason for that!

Yesterday Isaac and I were watching TV when a fire alarm went off. I tracked it down to behind the basement door. I opened the door and saw the light in the stairwell (right below the fire alarm) smoking, sparking and FLAMING.
I had a half second of panic where I first thought water (uh, duh...no) and then I ran under it and hit the main breaker. Luckily it stopped.

This Wisconsin Life ~ Spring Storms

Submitted by lapina on Wed, 05/28/2008 - 5:01pm.

I felt the need to record this last storm.

I was over at my Mom's watching the weather specials about the crazy storm, decided to head home.

I stood outside watching vortices for awhile.

Swap-bot Mama's

Who is currently doing swaps? I was talking to Dreamie and she got me hooked into the knitted washcloth swaps and I just started a homemade cloth menstrual pads swap.

Garden Mama's

Submitted by lapina on Thu, 05/15/2008 - 5:35pm.

Been spending more and more time outside digging in the earth. I created a raised bed in my backyard, converted my old garden to perennial crap only and plan to try out square foot gardening to convert more of my blasted LAWN into something worthwhile.

What cool garden projects do you mamas have going on right now?

My realizations today

Submitted by lapina on Sat, 05/03/2008 - 1:07am.

(totally copied from Dynamom...hey maybe you should do a daily post!)

1. Most of my insecurities are actually other peoples insecurities that I inherit. I am going to make an effort to undo this habit. I didn't realize how little progressive human interaction I get every day.

2. The next person who says "wow....*uncomfortable pause*" after I mention I have a small business making cloth menstrual pads is going to get a business pitch about them. Maybe I will start carrying samples in my bag just for this purpose.

Okay, both of those were actually one run on realization.--read more >>

Goods 4 Girls

Submitted by lapina on Fri, 04/18/2008 - 7:56pm.

Lucky Violet posted a link for Goods 4 Girls a couple of months back and I just had a buyer request I send her purchase there. I decided to set up some low cost donation listings for G4G and Miracle Diapers. I hope to get at least 30 pads together for each organization this month and I am getting there!

Crafty Mama's - The Bitch Bag

I am so proud of this bag.

And the cool site I sell on has a new widget that I just had to throw in..

My New Website

Claire de Lune Pads

I am not asking people to swarm and buy, I was just so proud that I managed to get it up and running with a boatload of stock. Smiling Guess I am looking for a very solicited pat on the back. Cheesy right?

So it is still under construction (obviously), but the skeleton is there. Also going to give a shout out to www.eCrater.com for providing a free e-store community. For those of you who sell online, check them out!

Vibes for my Mama

Submitted by lapina on Wed, 03/12/2008 - 3:19pm.

Just got a call that my mom broke her wrist pretty badly. Not such a big deal except that she is at a job 1,100 miles away from home.
Sad

Need vibes that they can stabilize it enough for her to come home without surgery!
