I had class tonight, so I had to Tivo the convention. I am watching Bill Clinton now. I haven't been consistently fond of him, as a president or recently on Hillary's campaign. But, he kicked ass tonight.

Cool article on teen pregnancy

Submitted by sunflower on Wed, 08/13/2008 - 7:08pm.

Either I forgot my user name or they reset the membership when the site was down. I can't sign into girlmom, so I will post this here.

I really liked this article about teen pregnancy. If someone on here posts there, please pass it along. It is refreshing to see someone giving them some credit and well, choice.

I have to admit, though, I am a sucker for the writers from Feministing. See, feminism and motherhood can go together.

Alcoholism questionnaire

Submitted by sunflower on Sun, 08/10/2008 - 7:55pm.

I learned about this tool, the C.A.G.E. test, in med school, and I think it is very interesting. First, it is really easy to remember and ask people in a treatment setting:

1. Have you ever felt you should Cut down on your drinking?

* Yes
* No

2. Have people Annoyed you by criticizing your drinking?

* Yes
* No

3. Have you ever felt bad or Guilty about your drinking?

* Yes

I needed something to help me procrastinate studying for pharm.

Here is an interesting dialog between me and a classmate who thinks birth control is immoral.

I know there are a bunch of you on here. My good friend and all around wonderful person Gislene opened a new coffee shop (no, really!) called Gigibar in Portland. The review says that it is great for kids and accessible for people with disabilities. Check it out!

I love this quote

Submitted by sunflower on Sat, 06/28/2008 - 3:19pm.

"The crazy part is that Michelle Obama should be treated as a great American success story, someone we can all relate to or be inspired by. Without being forced to "soften" her image. She's a working mom! With brains! What's not to like? It's a paradox: Her story — growing up not rich but not poor in Chicago, making it into Princeton and becoming a lawyer commanding a six-figure salary — is actually the American dream. So why is she being treated like she's the American nightmare?"--read more >>

Designing a school shirt

Submitted by sunflower on Thu, 06/05/2008 - 2:00am.

I am trying to design a shirt for our school chapter of AMWA, the American Medical Women’s Association.

It is going to say “Be the doctor your mother wanted you to marry” and have this graphic on it. The suitor will be mirror imaged on the other side, so there will be two suitors.

Blog day for education

Submitted by sunflower on Fri, 05/30/2008 - 9:45pm.

Wifemotherslave? Sweet dumpling? Everyone?

My friend is helping organize a blog day for education on June 20th. I couldn't even get the link up in time, and two of you have already posted about topics in education! She especially wants homeschoolers to participate.

Please take part. You all are so thoughtful, and would have a lot of great input on this, I am sure.

Who loves doulas?

Submitted by sunflower on Wed, 05/28/2008 - 3:23pm.

I do I do!

The journal Birth has a great new article about continuous labor support with a doula and its effects on birth outcomes.

I didn't have one my first birth, and I did during my second. The difference was infinite. Hopefully, I will be doing research on this, soon!

Oh, the irony

Submitted by sunflower on Wed, 05/14/2008 - 1:29am.

I thought it was ironic when I was studying the physiology of fertility and pregnancy on Mother’s Day. Now, Z has croup and I have a virology test, my microbiology final, on Friday. (HPIV 1 will be on the exam). Big problem is, I have an Osteopathic Principles & Practices final tomorrow. I have a written exam at 8 a.m. and a practical exam at 10:30 a.m. Coach Stu has field day tomorrow at his school.--read more >>
