Great Hera! Portland and New Jersey mamas!

Hey Portland and New Jersey mamas - this Sunday is WonderWoman Day! It's a great event to raise awareness during domestic violence awareness month and this year in Portland, Adam Hughes will be there. Kid-friendly! http://www.wonderwomanmuseum.com/WWDay3/WWDay3.html

WONDER WOMAN DAY III - New Jersey
Sunday, October 26, 2008 -- 12 am - 5 pm -- FREE

I saw Tim Wise speak yesterday!

He was incredible! So so smart and passionate about ending racism.

he said a lot of stuff about Obama and the presidential race. One of his first points was that if O wins, we should not kid ourselves that his victory says _anything_ about the larger systemic reality of race and racism in America and that it is highly dangerous to speak of his potential victory (or even getting this far) as a signal of the end of racism in America. pretty radical, huh? I wish I was smart enough to articulate the argument for you all. I did record part of the talk so maybe I can upload it.

Blogging the Debate?

I loved the discussion about the VP debate but I totally missed it when I was watching.

Anyone care to join in? I'm interested in the town hall format tonight. They say McCain is good at these things and that Obama prefers big crowds, but I don't know. Old guy creeps me out and Barack seems like someone I could have a solid discussion with.

Results of 8 months of HARD Work

My agency has a beautiful PSA! Check it out:

My annual event is this Friday

if you don't know, I raise money for the Portland Women's Crisis Line www.pwcl.org

When I was hired, the event was held in a tiny winery, and on Friday just 4 years later: The Crystal Ballroom!

If you are in Portland and want to come, PM me and I'll give you my direct line at work.

watching the white guys (& occassional white woman or black man) speak

I'm watching the DNC convention on PBS right now.

Just waiting to hear from the black woman. I think I like Michelle Obama better than Barack.

But after she speaks, mamas....watch this site for the mess that will follow: www.michelleobamawatch.com

I am so glad she is there, though. I am so happy that my girl can look up to her, even if they don't win - maude, god and buddha help us. thanks, Michelle.

OMG crying

what the fuck?

Biden?

god damn it

give me a why? obama campaign. are you clean and articulate enough?

i miss hipmama. here's my contribution.

mamas, what do you hear right now?

at home, no tv, no radio on.
sitting outside.
yep. smoking a cigarette.
i hear an ice cream truck.
piercingly loud, it prowls past my little house, sitting up next to the curb as it does.
it turns the corner of my block and my other ear is assaulted.
and a tiny part of me is a kid and breathes the summer air.
that's the trouble with living between two parks.

i hear airplanes flying low.
i hear a rythmic thud.
the bass from a car in front of my neighbor's house.

i hear a random city type bird squawk a couple of times.

total score

this is also one reason i love portland, oregon.

yesterday, driving home, this was on the curb with a FREE sign. it even had the poker/stirstick thing with it

it was a bitch to get into the car but i am so happy i circled the block 3x to make sure it was what i thought it was.

Teen Pregnancy Pact?

This is weird. It was highlighted on my local news (dumb local news). Part off me is a little bit proud of those girls for wanting to raise their babes together....

Article

oh and hi mamas! I'm lost in the IRL world of work drama and single mamahood but this made me think of all of you and wonder what you would think.

new tat

i know i am never here anymore, but this is my new tat and I LUV HIPMAMA. i am just really really busy.

the tat is my compassion meditation.
you can also see the tat that hipmama huck (love you!) designed for me too (i've got purpose and faith now, huck - on opposite arms). Next week, I get the exact same thing under "purpose" and it will say "things fall away"
that will be my non-attachment meditation

She's Three!

My dd turned three this weekend. I can hardly believe it. On top of that, I've been on HM for 3 years and 35 weeks.
Here's the girl eating the marzipan ear off of her "baby jaguar" cake:

domestic violence

sunflower said: When I posted, and I was the first one, I simply explained the site and thought well, anyone who hears that the site was crated for abuse victims and victims of cyberstalkers will certainly back down and maybe even apologize for tearing us a new one. 100 posts later, I am still waiting.

honestly, i am reading through all of this because i was away from my computer all day and the only thing keeping me from posting a whole new thread about how HIPMAMA IS PUBLIC is exhaustion.

wow. jerry seinfeld really sold out.

i just saw a cross promotion between mcd*nalds and Bee Movie.

that website is so annoying. click if you dare.

jerry! what happened???

happy hallow's eve!

i can not wait to meet this guy *now with pics!

so, on sunday i get to participate in Wonder Woman Day 2 (etta, i am thinking of you...).

it's a silent auction of original wonder woman art benefiting my agency and 2 domestic violence shelters during domestic violence awareness month (did you know its dv awareness month? i should have posted about that october 1st, darn it).

I feel the need to connect

It feels like I never post anymore. So here's my little update, if you are interested.

I just finished organizing my agency's annual event. I know I posted about that. Smile It was awesome. We made 3x as much money as last year. No small feat indeed. I am pretty proud of myself. There's one for the resume, thank you very much.

16 days and counting - PDX mamas, wanna come?

first off - can i get some vibes for no last minute chaos? my boss just left for a 2 week honeymoon and won't be back until the week of the event. ack!

here's our Youtube video. We are so cool.

pic ho - got bagel?

an end to female circumcision

sometimes reading Philanthropy Today is really inspiring.

Tostan - a Senegal nonprofit educating women in Africa and fighting to stop female genital mutilation has won the largest humanitarian prize in the world. $1.5 million, which has got to be a total dream for this organization.

there is good in the world, i swear. they are working to end female circumcision in the next five years.

10 for sunday

1. this girl and this new trike. grateful that i am the lucky one who gets to see this smile everday *darn it, photobucket it down. see attachment. **yay! now it's working:

2. despite initially being pretty grumpy and angry about the mediation process, it seems like bd is softening up and at least being cordial to me.

3. grounded. i feel so grounded knowing what the custody agreement will look like until she is 5 years old. no more surprise arguments.

pic ho for the hell of it

mediation is today in about 3 hours. my girl is off at the zoo with a friend for the day. i am trying to keep myself grounded.

so i took this last night after i'd had two beers:
